Review: At first glance One Piece may certainly seem like another typical shonen formula, story, fight, story fight, fight, story etc but the story and the fights are so good it works really well and you will see why the manga has continued for the past 12 years or so. As the story progressess you begin to relise that Eiichirō Oda has created an amazingly structured and multi-tiered world, and we've only seen a small portion of it so far, the mystery and excitment of the adventure is still there after so many years.

He also excels at creating likeable main characters each with a heart wrenching past and an ambition that secures their place amongst luffys crew. There is a character for everyone in this story whether it be the cowardly ships sniper ussop or the headstrong swordsman zoro, you will certainly find you have a favourite main character amongst luffys crew and watch how their character evolves from the begining of the story up to where we are now.

Another one of the appeals of the series is certainly the seemingly endless stream of villians each one as different as the last, the fights in One piece are surprsignly brutal at times but are always fun to watch thanks to the conception of the devil fruits this in turn makes these fights unique and enjoyable to read everytime, and even after these enemies have been beaten to a pulp that may not be the last you will see of them.

The story is a continous adventure, so many faces and events from the past will crop up later, or even much later in the story, that you may need to go back and remind yourself as to what happened. Even the most wayward off the trail adventures that the crew have at the begining of the story which may not have seemed much more than a simple brawl between them and some random bounty hunter will be of some significance many chapters later, and its a nice little touch that in a way rewards you as a reader.

And finally another major aspect of One Piece is the tone of the series, yes its often a lighthearted adventure and there are plenty of laughs along the way, but the author manages to cram everything into the story, epic moments that will give you goosebumps, heart wrenching moments that may have you in tears and jaw dropping twists that just leave you stunned. If there isnt a moment in One Piece that doesnt choke you up then you must be reading the wrong manga...

Even after 500+ chapters One Piece has not lost any of the magic it began with, if anything its gotten better as the story has progressed and one of the most amazing things to bear in mind is that we are only about halfway through the story at this point in time. A word of warning if you get into it, well lets just say you will almost certainly become hooked and you'll want to see it through till the end, which thankfully doesnt seem to be in sight for a while yet.
