Agreed. Horrible soul reaper... He tends to focus less on the guiding souls to Soul Society aspect and more on the kick the crap out of everything aspect... Just like every single captain and lieutenant of soul society, who are only sent to the human world to deal with emergencies.. Only difference is he doesn't have to deal with as much paperwork.

Why is everyone so much against the main freaken character of the tv show? It's just a tv show and you automatically hate him? He doesn't follow the rules as the soul society does so he isn't a full fledged soul reaper and doesn't always kill hollow like the others do.
You all can say he's a bad or terrible shinigami, but if he was a terrible shinigami then the manga and the anime would have already ended

We are not hating on him. He just got his position as a substitute shinigami in order to carry our shinigami duties, that was the purpose of giving him the badge and such. But he doesn't tend to actually do a lot of soul society jobs. Lavi, if you wanna defend him, explain to me this : Would a GOOD soul reaper consistently defy orders? Would a GOOD soul reaper risk an entire town for one person? He makes a great human, full of good emotions and intentions, but as a soldier of seireitei, he is horrid... He broke the rules of seireitei sooo many times.. That is the reason the series doesn't end. Noone reads a manga where the character is normal and plays by the rules, at least not a lot of people.

Other Examples : One Piece, Luffy goes against the nature of pirates by having a good heart and being an awesome person in general. Naruto... do we need to get into that? I can't think of any rules he hasn't broken...

Well, I don't think that being a substitute shinigami comes with a package of list of things to do for a regular shinigami. If he held such responsibility and should have altered his course of actions to be seen as a "good" shinigami, then I'd very much believe that Old Man Yama would have held him by his collar and prevented him from re-entering the human world.

Ukitake said that a badge is given to spiritual beings, who may be deemed as being helpful towards Soul Society and declared to be a substitute shinigami. I don't think he has to do something, but just help out.

After SS arc, until he got interrupted by arrancars, Ichigo was slaying hollows around his town. I don't think he was neglecting his duties.

He was ripping off the entire handbook, which stated SS' rules and regulations, only before he was officially accepted by captains as a substitute shinigami. Apparently, they accepted his actions, as he helped SS survive through a crisis.

Then, he disobeyed one order, which was to not to enter Hueco Mundo to save Orihime.

Considering Ichigo's backstory as a human and how he's come to become a shinigami, I'd believe he's a good shinigami. He attained high level shinigami techniques like changing your toilet papers. Also, he did manage to risk his life in slaying hollows, so I believe that's a good thing. He's a teenager and hasn't been disciplined as a shinigami. It's highly likely that one would go off getting revenges and use his/her shinigami powers in doing stupid stuff. Ichigo was well behaving. Generally, I believe he's on the good side.
